Partner match cards support kids working in collaborative partnerships in your classroom. When a teacher says pick a partner to work with, students hear “Quick, run to your best friend!” Using partner match cards help prevent the kiddos from running to their bff or someone else who might not be the best choice and promotes diverse partnerships for your students to work in.

Distribute the cards to the students then have them walk around to find their classmate with a matching partner card. Teacher Knows Best
Even though this partner match activity is meant to randomly and heterogeneously pair students YOU KNOW YOUR STUDENTS BEST! You can pre-plan so certain students do or do not get partnered with another student. You can distribute some partner pairing cards in a deliberate way if you think necessary but just make it look random when you’re handing the cards out!
Partner Match Card Tips
If you have more students than partner pairing cards students print an extra page. For example you can have 2 partner pairs of peanut butter and jelly.
If you have an odd number of students, print an extra set of cards and select one for a group of 3 (Let your kiddos know you’re doing this so they know there will be 1 group of 3). For example milk and 2 cookies, or macaroni and extra cheese.
If you would like the kids to be in groups larger than partners of 2 print multiple sets of cards. Instruct the class that all milk and cookies are a group, all bacon and eggs are a group, etc.
