Looking for Gingerbread Man STEM Activities to do in your classroom? Look no further! These Gingerbread Man STEM Activities will have your students actively engaged in engineering, designing, coding and more!
Plan Your Lesson
First, read a version of the Gingerbread Man that ends with him being eaten by a fox when trying to cross the water. Then, engage your students in a discussion about how the Gingerbread Man could have solved his problem. Hint: if there was only a bridge or a boat so he didn’t need the fox’s help!
Now for the Gingerbread Man STEM Activities
After some direct instruction on what a bridge is, and what a boat is challenge your students to build a bridge or a boat to help save the poor Gingerbread Man from getting wet or eaten.
You can break the students into small groups to have them work on the Gingerbread Man STEM Activities. Provide them with a Gingerbread Man, a Fox, a STEM recording sheet, and materials to design and engineer their structure with.
Don’t forget to expand the challenge by asking students if they can make a boat that actually floats (and test it!). Or, ask students to imagine and create ways other than a bridge or boat to get the Gingerbread Man safely across the water!
Coding (with out a computer) Gingerbread Man STEM Activities
Your students are not too young to write code! Using the simple directions Up, Down, Left, Right your students will write a code to save the Gingerbread Man from his enemies and get him safely home!
Teaching Tip: I like to put the coding sheets in dry erase pockets to provide the students with trial and error opportunities while writing the code!
Gingerbread Man STEM Activities are a fun way to engage your students in learning during the hustle and bustle of the holiday season!
