Here is everything you need to do a New Year’s Resolution lesson, writing, and craft in your classroom. Returning from the holiday break it can be difficult for the kiddos and take a little while to get back into the swing of things. This fun lesson on New Year’s celebrations and resolutions followed by narrative writing and an easy cut and paste craft is perfect for the transition back to school.
New Year’s Resolution Lesson
First, you’ll need to teach all about New Year’s. I’ve got you covered with informational text about What is New Year’s Day, Celebrating the New Year, New Year’s Resolutions, and a writing prompt! Students will then complete a narrative writing piece about their own New Year’s Resolution.
New Year’s Resolution Writing
After you teach all about what New Years is, discuss resolutions that your students can make. The writing prompt can be projected onto your interactive whiteboard, or printed as a mini-anchor chart for small group instruction. My New Years Resolution Lesson, Writing, and Craft resource includes a variety of writing paper so you can pick what best meets the needs of your students.
New Year’s Resolution Craft
I like to use brightly colored Astrobrights paper for printing the pieces of this craft. Then, I rough-cut the pieces. I let the kiddos pick the colors they’d like to use for their New Year’s Craft and all they need to do is cut and paste.
Put it All Together
This New Year’s Resolution Lesson, Writing, and Craft make for a very adorable bulletin board display! I love backing the kids work on black cardstock, it makes the work pop! My resource includes lettering for your bulletin board display as well as a BONUS: printable banner-flags for drawing and writing about New Year’s Resolutions.
